Why Bali is my Happy Place

Anyone that knows me, knows that I leave a little piece of my heart in Bali every time I go. In the past 6 months I’ve been twice, and now Bali has quickly become the place I vow to go to at least once per year for as long as I’m out here.

Why?

Well, because Bali is my happy place. It’s the one place I go where I find myself smiling… all the time… just cause.

Bali caters to every side of me – the spiritual being, the adventurer, the underwater explorer, the (wishful) vegan yogi, the hipster, the spa junkie, and the party goer. Whatever I feel like, on any given day, I can experience. And it’s within arm’s reach. On top of that, everything is of great premium quality, yet so inexpensive.

I could go on for hours about how much I love this place, but let me TRY to explain high level just why this place is so amazing.

Bali has some stunning beaches with amazing underwater experiences – my  favourite snorkeling to date is on Lombak Island! In my next trip, I’ll visit the Gili Islands, which I hear are super fascinating, too! By then, I hope to have my diver license to really explore the beauty.

The place oozes spirituality. I am not Hindu (the dominant religion) yet I feel my divine creator every time I am there. It’s just in the air, hard to explain, but you just feel it. Everywhere, people are praying to their creator at one of the temples found on every property. And these temples! They are so beautiful it feels as though they should be an infamous artifact. Bali is known as the “Island of a thousand temples” for a reason.

Partying in Seminyak/Kuta is also loads of fun! I’ve been both during peak season and off season and definitely prefer the latter (I didn’t find myself being trampled by drunken Aussies or backpackers). You can enjoy the uppity crowds at a fancy lounge, or get down with the locals. Whatever your preference is, it’s there.

Now, to where my heart really is… Ubud. I just know I’ll live here one day. Even if for a little while. Everything… everything you saw in Eat Pray Love is so accurate. Ubud is where I connect best with myself. Where I’m connected to my divine creator and purpose. Things are clearer. I feel “home”.

Ubud is where you can find an organic all-natural restaurant on every corner. It’s where you can connect with some of the most genuine people, both local and foreign. You can rent a bike and just explore the town (and rice fields!) and not feel bombarded with tourists. You can do yoga with a renowned Yogi or simply meditate in peace, on your own and feel completely comfortable. This place, just caters overall to someone who wants to lead a whole, full, and healthy life with ease … my goal in life.

If you are ever in Southeast Asia please add it to your list. You will not be sorry! And if you do, tell my happy place I say hello!

I’ll see you again in August, Bali. I Love you!
